Map Your Connection to the Kaw

We will do this using Google Earth.

Let's get everything ready--

First, download the file in the Attachment section at the bottom of the page. Save it to your computer Desktop. This contains the instructions you will use in Google Earth.

Next, make sure Google Earth is installed on your computer. If it isn't, you can download it for free and install it-- just go to  and follow the instructions to download the program.

(Make sure you come back to this page so we can continue to get set up.)

Once you have Google Earth installed on your computer, open it. You should see the whole world.

Now go to File>Open at the top of the screen in Google Earth, then in the Browse window click on the file you downloaded called "Instructions for mapping your connection to the Kaw.kml"
for more help click here

Click on the blue "i" in the middle of the map to open the slideshow of instructions. You can open and close the slideshow pop-up while you make your map so that you can check the instructions.

You can also look at the slides below. This will guide you through the process of building your own Google Earth map of the Kansas River.

Enjoy exploring the Kaw!
